Long Arc Technology Corporation’s R&D Lab in Georgia succeeded in producing recovered Carbon Black material with high structure (OAN* is about 100 ml/100g) and very high surface area (NSA** is greater than 300 m2/g). This important breakthrough opened up a new direction for LAT’s R&D effort - The production of high market value (4-10 times greater price) specialty carbon blacks for cable coating and other semi-conductive rubber applications.
*OAN – Oil Absorption Number – is used to measure structure, a fundamental carbon black property. Higher carbon black grades have greater OAN.
**NSA (a.k.a. BET) – Nitrogen Surface Area – is used to measure total surface are, a fundamental carbon black property. Higher carbon black grades have greater NSA.
